Maersk Line IT/ Delivery Management - Database Manager
Maersk Line IT is currently seeking an experience Database Manager to support current database development activities that are part of a strategic program, the SOA Integration Solutions portfolio. It is the intention of this program to continue to develop the existing ‘service oriented architecture' (SOA) based platform which is a core component of delivery our Vision to Reality. The successful candidate will be located at the heart of a strategic program that will play a huge role in reshaping the system landscape of Maersk Line IT in the future.

The Role
The position of Database Manager is primarily focused on managing all activities involving any current or future databases used to support projects that are part of the SOA Integration Solutions program. The role has line management responsibilities and will require the candidate to direct the daily activities of several database administrators along with coordination of database activities with the hosting vendor. The candidate must have a minimum of 8 years working experience with databases, including a 4 year college degree related to a computer specialty and some additional database training. Previous work experience will include some of the following; database administrator, database manager, systems operations, software development support and project management. This position will be reporting to the Delivery Manager for ADLT.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • Managing all current and new project requests relating to database requirements, including defining the sizing, capacity, availability and failover requirements.
  • Leadership and coaching responsibilities of junior staff, both internal and external.
  • Coordination of daily activities with system managers and hosting vendors.
  • Generation of all database service requests and technical requirements for vendors.
  • Ensure Maersk Line IT governance processes and guidelines are followed.
  • Will act as the primary liaison with the hosting vendor and the team on all database related activity.
  • Adopting the use of various applications and tools to support daily activities.
  • Provide regular updates on system activities to delivery management and project owners.
  • Accountability for all key performance metrics required for each system.
  • Coordination of priorities within System Management team.

Key Competencies for this role:
The ideal candidate will have many of the following attributes.

  • A high level of technical competence relating to database administration, software development and the activities involved with both.
  • Familiar with working in a SCRUM or Agile team environment.
  • Good Understanding of what continuous integration and automated deployment are.
  • Comfortable working with stakeholders of all levels of management.
  • Comfortable using a process oriented approach to achieve goals.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in processes and delivery models based on business needs.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Database version 11g management including RAC, DG, ASM and security
  • Preferred, knowledge of OEM including health checks for database infrastructures

  • Should have an entrepreneurial approach when looking for new solutions.
