For a newly formed group at Square Enix Europe, we are looking for two experienced system administrators to join our operations team. The group is focusing on the casual, handheld and browser games segment and is currently producing a number of exciting titles to be launched in near future.

You take pride in an operation that runs as smoothly as possible and can take initiative to foresee and solve problems before they arise. But when the inevitable disaster happens, you can keep a cool head in the storm and stay at it until the matter is resolved.

About the job:
You will become part a newly created team, which is responsible for the operations of the backend infrastructure for our games. Our infrastructure is based on AWS and our technology stack currently includes elements like Linux, Apache, Varnish, MySQL, Django, Memcahced and Mercurial, but we are constantly investigating new ways to improve performance and features.

The main responsibilities of the job are:

  • All types of system administration on our server instances including upgrading, hardening, monitoring, backing up and recovery.
  • Working with the backend architect conducting measurements and experiments to improve performance, availability and scalability.
  • Analyzing stability and performance problems and working with the game teams to resolve issues.
  • Participating in rotating 24/7 on-call shifts.
  • Magic is expected to be performed on a regular basis.

Required skills:

  • 5+ years of Linux/Unix systems administration experience
  • Experience with high-traffic, multi-node, load balanced, highly scalable sites
  • Experience with several of the following technologies: Apache, MySQL, Python, Django, Memcached and Mercurial.
  • Proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Bash, Python, Perl or Ruby.
  • Experience with supporting 24x7 operations
  • Experience with analyzing CPU, I/O and network performance issues.
  • Good knowledge of network protocols and tools (tcpdump etc.)
  • Good english skills

Appreciated skills:

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services technologies like EC2, S3, CloudFront
  • Good knowledge of web technologies like JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • Experience with (My)SQL and the care, tuning and maintenance of databases.
  • Experience with NoSQL and other modern scalability technologies
