For a new initiative at Square Enix Europe, we are looking for an experienced specialist in networking, scalability and server architecture. The group is focusing on the casual, handheld and browser games segment.
About the job:
You will be responsible for designing a highly scalable backend architecture that will become a secure and robust backbone of our browser based games. One aspect of this is the development of the architecture, testing, profiling and optimizing of said systems. Another aspect is to participate in building an Operations team to take care of running operations and maintenance as well as taking part of important upgrades and rollouts.
You will be working with multiple internal as well as external game teams and partners (cloud hosting, payment integration etc.) as well as the rest of the organization in terms of features and functionality from a backend perspective. You will also be working directly with our frontend Django programmers, and of course with the game team providing input on features and functionality from a backend perspective.
You will work in an office based in Copenhagen with a group of extremely motivated and experienced colleagues as well as the global organization of Square Enix. You will report to our technical director.
About you:
You should have:
- Expertise in developing and maintaining server infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of web service technologies (e.g. Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, Python, Memcached, Varnish)
- Familiar and confident with server frameworks, distributed systems, fault tolerance, and scalability
- Experience with operations, preferably in a lead role.
- Minimum 3 years of hardcore server-side coding in PHP, Django or similar.
- Passionate about social gaming.
- Good English skills (spoken and written).
It would be a plus if you have:
- Knowledge of Python and/or Django
- Experience in working with Amazon Cloud services including S3, EC2, and RDS
- Knowledge of web technologies like Ajax, HTML, JavaScript, Web API's, social media integration etc.
- Experience building web-based admin controls
- Knowledge/experience with social games (such as Facebook).
- Prior experience in pushing frequent updates of in-game content
