Network Engineer to Saint-Gobain Technology Services Nordic & Baltic
Saint-Gobain Technology Services (SGTS) Nordic & Baltic is an IT Infrastructure shared service center providing services to all Saint-Gobain businesses in the Nordic and Baltic region. We support approximately 60 business units with a total of 600 different sites, 1300 servers of which 850 are placed in our datacenter in Norway, and a total of 4500 end-users for our helpdesk services and training programs.
Experience a major IT organisation
SGTS is responsible for building and running shared IT infrastructure services, implementation of IT infrastructure standards, management of the outsourced datacenter, cybersecurity and cloud services. Further, SGTS provides IT infrastructure support for the implementation of digital solutions as well as user support and training. Our working language is English.
Our goal is building and running the next generation of shared IT infrastructure services
As an IT network engineer, you will use your technical skills within infrastructure and network topology in the Infrastructure Solution department. You will join a team of three persons and we expect that the team will develop alongside our aspiration to provide best practice shared services through technical solutions adapted to business needs.
Make full use of your infrastructure knowledge
You will contribute to the strategy, design and documentation of Saint-Gobain networks, write technical documentation and manage multiple infrastructure projects. Thus, your responsibilities are wide-ranging, but acting within our overall IT framework, you serve as a key representative on major network initiatives. Your main tasks are:
- Design and architecture of infrastructure solutions (Networks, LAN/WAN, Switches and Firewalls)
- Working with technical management to architect networks that effectively reflect business needs, service-level and availability requirements and other technology parameters
- Approving and modifying network design and architecture to ensure compliance
- Configuring and maintaining routers, switches, and hubs for the network systems
- Collaborating with our Onsite Infrastructure team on network improvements and acting as a 3rd level support on central infrastructure.
It is all about technologies
From a technological perspective, you look into DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP while developing best practices on IPv4/IPv6 routing, subnetting, MPLS and allocation. And regarding networks specifically, you will work with
HP network (switching), Cisco network (firewalls, routers), VPN technology (GRE, IPSec/SSL VPNs) support and configuration, layer 2 protocols (e.g. LACP, MLAG, Spanning Tree, etc.), wireless networking (designing and troubleshooting) and network diagramming skills (using tools such as Visio for network topology).
Experience with networks and infrastructure
To succeed in this role, you will need structured working methods as well as a passion for technologies, a business mindset and excellent ITIL knowledge. But just as importantly, you are sociable and ready to collaborate and communicate with a non-technological audience. You are curious, always looking for new insights and learnings, so you continuously develop.
- You probably hold an engineering degree.
- You are familiar with a range of the above technologies.
- You have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience with network design and infrastructure.
- You are fluent in English and if possible a Scandinavian language.
- You preferably have experience with ITIL
At Saint-Gobain we design, manufacture and distribute materials which are key ingredients in the wellbeing of each of us and the future of all. Join our innovative, passionate and entrepreneurial community to improve the world of tomorrow with us.
