Senior Software Engineer - Guide Scale and Cloud-native

Come and work with us on scaling Zendesk Guide, a product used by millions of people every day. You will build solutions based on stream-processing (Kafka), container orchestration system (Kubernetes and Docker) and all the way to Service-Meshes.
We’re looking for a skilled staff software engineer to help to make Zendesk Guide a Cloud-Native application and to bring it to the next level in terms of orchestration, reliability, and stability using cloud functionalities as they are supposed to. Guide is made by different services that need to be robust, scalable and maintainable.
You will work with a talented team of senior-level software engineers who’ll leverage your expertise, support you in areas where you’re not an expert, and help you level-up! You will contribute to our app infrastructure built on Rails, React.js.
You will give back to open source communities.
We use Kanban Scrum, including daily scrum meetings (at 10am), refinement and weekly and sprint reviews. We have a demo with the rest of the Guide team every two weeks.

What you bring to the role:
- 3-4+ years of software engineering experience.
- Experience with AWS platform or other Cloud platforms - You are able to run migrations of application data to new services, you are not afraid of “changing the wheels while the train is running”.
- It doesn’t matter what languages, frameworks or platforms you already know, but you must be eager to learn new ones and among those Ruby, JS/ECMAScript 6, Scala, Rails, React will be your daily world.
Nice to have:
- Experience in a SaaS environment.
- MySQL/Aurora experience at scale and Kafka are a plus.
You should love finding simple solutions to complex problems, and care about not only the technical and algorithmic aspects of large systems but the way they enable other teams to do their jobs. You should have previous experience with web infrastructure, distributed systems, or component-oriented software engineering.
You will be in charge of ensuring scalability, performance, maintainability, and security of the technology platform in collaboration with ops teams.
