About the role

The Danish start-up Paralenz developed and successfully launched the Paralenz Dive Camera in November 2018. Paralenz is launching a new, updated camera this autumn that will enable divers to act as a citizen scientist for ocean conservation causes.

Paralenz are scaling their operations and has allowed Academic Work to search for a new Back-end developer, who will fit perfectly into a smaller team, who values a good sense of humor, open dialogue between all departments, professionalism, in-depth passion for back-end development, marketing etc. - and social activities as Friday Beers, and good conversations.

Job duties

As a Back-end developer for Paralenz, you will mainly be working on their new community platform, Paralenz World, which is a space for our divers to upload short stories of their dive and place it on a map for others to explore. This exciting project has just begun - which makes all ideas for development etc. welcome, and for you to take upon a lot of interesting tasks!

Working tasks includes:

  • working on API contracts between back-end and their app and a 3rd party API used for integrations with their partners
  • being responsible for moving your own code into production

We are looking for

As a person, you do not hesitate to dive into dialogue when you face challenges, and you admit if you make mistakes. You are eager to contribute to making the platform as good as possible. Therefore, you do not hold back – you are always researching new areas within your field, developing your profile, brainstorming with your coworkers about possible solutions, and not afraid of sharing your ideas and thoughts. You are proactive and you thrive in a position, where you are excepted to work independently after a short on-boarding period.

As much as you are passionate about back-end development, you are motivated to combine this passion together with a good working environment, where the desire to have a strong community is high. You get energy when working with people sharing the same interest - IT, but also the desire to help making Paralenz' camera and platform every divers first choice!

Paralenz is not expecting you to know all the technologies in their current stack. It is important that you have some experience as a Back-end developer, and a strong passion to learn even more - and dive into other areas such as Frontend etc.


  • Experience working with back-end development
  • Finished a relevant degree within the software field
  • Working experience with back-end development - from a student/full time position etc.
  • Strong verbal skills within English
  • Good understanding of how to leverage your experience across technology and languages
  • Danish residency

This would be a good fit:

  • Experience in more than one technology stack
  • GraphQL/Rest APIs in NOde.js or similar
  • PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar
  • JavaScript, TypeScript or similar
  • Experience with Relay
  • Dependency management tools like Yarn or NPM

It would be considered as an advantage if you have an opinion about front-end too.
