IT de­part­ment manager for Subscrip­tion De­ve­l­op­ment


At Egmont Publishing we are looking for an experienced IT department manager to be our new Head of Subscription Development, to run and develop our subscription platform for magazines and weeklies, Advantage, and the IT architecture with numerous systems around this. We are looking for a manager with proven knowledge of application development and application support so if you are eager to use your experience to set direction and assist us in the use of best practises then this is the role for you! We have high business demands, a heavy backlog, and are continuously seeking  to improve time-to-market, agility, and flexibility in a cost-efficient environment.

We are a leading publisher in the Nordic countries with leading positions in other markets and publish more than 700 magazines and weeklies. New strategic areas for Egmont Publishing are e-commerce and digital marketing services where the portfolio of the investments is increasing. All our Danish and Swedish titles for children, magazines, and weeklies can be found on our digital platforms. We develop our digital platform Flipp giving digital access to our magazines and weeklies and selected children’s magazines on a subscription basis and manage the subscription platform mintidning.se and the back-end of mitblad.dk.

Experienced application development manager

As our new Head of Subscription Development, you supervise the application landscape, which includes daily operations, prioritized changes, and planned projects. We run an agile setup with bi-weekly sprints, and you will act as consultant for future subscription choices. You will also improve development and operational processes and strengthen organizational collaboration.

It is paramount for us that you bring leadership, a mind for change, power of execution and strong stakeholder management with you, and you are motivated to collaborate with your peers in our management team. You will report to IT Director, Cecilia Maunsbach, and manage our development teams in Malmö and Copenhagen. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing relations to our business stakeholders such as marketing and digital responsible and CEO’s in Denmark and Sweden.

Your main responsibilities

  • Manage team
    • Support and promote team members in every sense and act as ambassador for the department.
    • Ensure optimal working conditions for the team in respect of priorities, technical environments, new technologies and new markets.
  • Setting direction
    • Key driver for setting the direction for the department together with IT Director and business owners.
    • Evaluating future directions, technologies, scaling, sourcing and strategic alternatives with team and stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder management
    • Ensure timely and frequent communication to executive business owners.
  • Processes and methods
    • Ensuring strong development processes, QA, documentation, and testing practises.
  • Business development
    • Ability to participate in discussions around business development in close dialogue with the business owners.
  • Budget and investments
    • Responsible for the department budget, cost, and allocations.

Your profile

  • Proven technical track record of managing and transforming application development and maintenance departments.
  • You have a solid leadership and project management profile combined with strong analytical and technical acumen.
  • Experience from larger IT departments, preferable from bank, media or publishing, or other high-volume transacting environments using best practice processes and frameworks in application development.
  • Ability to analyze and present findings, produce presentations and discuss alternatives using a consultancy mindset.
  • Strong technical insight and quickly comprehend complex business issues and a relevant higher university education (business or engineering).
  • Fluent in one of the Scandinavian languages.
  • Strong personal integrity and great collaboration competencies.

You will primarily be working out of our attractive and modern office in Copenhagen (Østerbro) and occasionally in Malmö (Västra Hamnen). The environment in Egmont Publishing is informal and full of creativity.
