Lead Architect in Cloud Computing
At the VELUX Group, we give you the chance to grow. To shape your own career. To work in an international environment. To be part of a company that leads the market in sustainable indoor living. We offer you a world of opportunities – if you have the ability and the drive to take them.
Do you want to push the boundaries and help drive the research strategy within emerging digital technologies? Do you want to be part of a new journey, a journey towards excellence in future digital product development? Look no further. VELUX has established a new Smart Product Technology R&D unit with the task of identifying, prioritizing, and incubating the right digital technologies to secure VELUX’s long-term competitiveness within smart products. We are opening several positions as part of this investment, the lead architect in cloud computing being one of them. The right candidate will become part of an R&D team consisting of highly specialized, experienced senior professionals.
VELUX is a market-leading and global company. We are investing significantly in digitization and we are now taking the next steps in a new journey towards future market-leading VELUX smart products.
VELUX has started the journey of connecting digital products to the Internet, integrating them into smart home eco-systems, and ultimately aiming at enabling a better and healthier indoor environment. The focus of the Smart Product Technology R&D team, located in VELUX’s R&D office in Østbirk, is to continue and accelerate this journey. That is, to set the strategic digital technology direction and ensure that VELUX will continuously benefit from the rapid development within digital growth technologies like electronics, communications and AI.
Besides being a lead architect in cloud computing, we are looking for an analytical and methodical colleague who shares our passion for pushing the product envelope in terms of ease-of-use, sustainability, and product quality.
The right candidate will play a key role in developing and setting VELUX’s long-term digital technology agenda in cooperation with internal stakeholders across the organization, and through partnerships with top national and international high-tech companies and universities.
The role as lead architect in Cloud Computing is to steer the identification, prioritization, and focus of our long-term efforts within cloud computing for future VELUX smart products. Initially, the role involves scoping, prioritizing, and managing the development of the VELUX prototype Cloud that enables us to analyse and understand our data even better. You will secure the data acquisition that can be done through open standardized interfaces and make the data available for further analysis. You will be a key stakeholder in orchestrating and setting up the state-of-the-art VELUX cloud as a core element of our new data-driven lab, as you constantly aim to improve the decision process towards selected emerging digital technologies. You incubate cloud services and features by delivering proof-of-concepts, either through in-house development or through partnerships. You will be responsible for the continuous technology scouting process for long-term potentials in emerging, potentially disrupting, software developments for VELUX smart products. In doing so, you will lead activities and strategies for partnering with 3rd party companies, including open-source software organizations.
We expect a lot of our people. The job is challenging and influential on a global scale, where the right candidate will be offered a setup that can create a big impact across the organization as well as on future VELUX smart products. It is a unique opportunity to work closely with a wide variety of colleagues and stakeholders in a world leading Danish company.
You need to have a relevant educational background, most likely a PhD degree within applied computer engineering or similar, combined with at least 10 years of relevant industrial experience within advanced technology and research development in Cloud Computing. You have significant hands-on experience within the newest ways of designing Cloud Computing systems. You have a strong background in designing and implementing elastic clouds that scales in terms of storage and processing power, provide end-2-end security, and provide fast IO access to support large scale real-time services.
It is a prerequisite that you have insight and experience within several of the following domains:
- Cloud Native Computing
- Design of cloud solutions based on open source software stacks (e.g. Google Cloud IoT Core) to create loosely coupled systems that are resilient, manageable and observable, using techniques like:
- Containerized software, such as Docker, dynamically orchestrated so each part is actively scheduled and managed to optimize resource utilization
- Microservices-oriented to increase the overall agility and maintainability of applications
- Securing robust automation yet allowing for high-impact changes frequently and predictably, with minimal toil. Usage of tools like Kubernetes, for automated deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.
- State-of-the-art open source software toolchains in general.
On a personal level, you have a passion to create innovative solutions through research-based work and are motivated by actively being part of building something new. At the same time, you understand that patience and trust in the work are necessary to follow through on programs. You are self-driven, and you tend to take initiatives to make things happen. Additionally, you have excellent critical analysis and methodical skills, supporting an evidence-based, structured way of working. You have an open and forthcoming manner and your collaboration and communication skills are outstanding – you can easily and clearly communicate complex ideas and information to other people in a way that is understandable. You work well within a team and can build a network within a large organization. You are excellent in English both orally and in writing.
We offer a job where you will have many internal as well as external stakeholders and business partners and you will have the opportunity to put your mark on your tasks and processes.
You will be part of a global company characterized by an informal tone and a healthy sense of humour. We work as one team to reach our ambitious results.
