Become a Junior Data Engineer on the New Cloud Data Platform in Chr. Hansen, R&D

The team for you to join

You will be a part of Digital R&D, which is a central unit in Chr. Hansen Research & Development (R&D) leading the digital agenda in R&D. We are at the very heart of the digital transformation that will let us drive speed in innovation. The overall aim is to enable scalable science in Chr. Hansen through digital solutions. 

We support the business with commercial as well as in-house built solutions and span from securing a solid IT infrastructure to advanced analytics unleashing the full value of our science data. We are a dynamic and diverse team of nine people with different backgrounds within IT and Life Science who enjoy what we do. This in combination with curiosity and an open and informal approach has led to great success in establishing digital solutions. We always work in close collaboration with IT, other internal digitalization teams and the business.   

What would your role look like? 

As a Junior Data Engineer in Digital R&D, you will apply your understanding of data transformation, pipelines, and modeling to support the scientists in R&D. Your role is to develop, support, troubleshoot, and maintain data pipelines on our new Science Data Platform. This platform plays a central role in making key scientific data easily reliable, browsable and analyzable. The platform is under development why you will join the team at a very exciting and defining moment. This will be a very good opportunity to get experience with the new Data Lakehouse platform architecture. 

You will: 

  • Develop data transformation jobs and build pipelines that move data to answer the user stories in our backlog. The end-product will typically be analytical data models, analytical base tables, and other types of curated data. You will focus on great performing code and the right use of components
  • Work extensively with SQL in a variety of new and heavy compute components (Databricks and Azure Synapse Analytics). During your upskilling, you will also adopt PySpark
  • Work closely with guidance and sparring from our Senior Data Engineer & Architect in how to best handle the user stories in scope
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts and Product owners in refining user stories
  • Occasionally take the data delivery a step further by building cubes and data visualizations
  • Play a key role in documenting, testing, and monitoring the activities on the platform

Who are we looking for?

For this position you need to have experience with and a good understanding of Data Analytics (Ideally a degree in IT, Data Science, or equivalent professional experience). You may be a graduate and have relevant experience from student positions. We also see that you have technical experience with developing data transformation Jobs and orchestrating them via pipelines (ETL/ELT) and great skills in SQL.

Further, you have:

  • Skills to handle Structured, Semi-structured, and unstructured data
  • The desire and talent of monitoring pipelines and identify why some might have failed
  • Experience with the development of classic analytic data models (you know about Ralph Kimball)
  • Ability to work independently, structure, and drive a process
  • Ability to translate business needs into Data Solutions 
  • Programming experience (R/Python) is seen as a significant advantage.
  • Knowledge about the most common supervised & unsupervised learning algorithms is an advantage
  • Experience from working in a research-oriented environment, ideally bioscience, is an advantage
