JAVA SOFTWARE ENGINEERS, MISSION CRITICAL NAVAL SYSTEMS

The team and organization

We are looking for strong software engineers to take on specialized roles in a vital development team in our software division. In Command & Control (C2) we are responsible for our Naval systems, providing situational awareness for surveillance, maritime safety, mission-critical defense and, if needed, weapon functionality for combat purposes.

You will find your colleagues and involved customers to be open and welcoming, with a lot of knowledge they gladly share. You will be in a growing team of 8-9 passionate people in the C2 organization of 80+ highly engaged colleagues, in an area of great focus and importance in Terma. We have a deep passion in our work, as well as how we work together in stable, interdisciplinary, and self-managed teams based on agile principles.

Your most important tasks

As a software engineer, you will be a key capacity in ensuring our best-in-class software systems. You will take ownership in design and architecture within your area and be an important sparring partner for your colleagues in and outside the team.

Your primary tasks will be:

  • Translation of customer needs and system requirements into our software solutions – in close collaboration with the rest of the team
  • Design and implementation into new components, as well as maintaining a sound understanding and overview of the software components
  • Take part in verification and bug fixing with testers and system engineers, both at our internal test sites and at our customer’s ships
  • Help ensuring good (automated) test coverage of the team’s components and collaborate within teams to ensure a thoroughly verification of our deliveries

Your experience and education

You have a relevant education, perhaps a master’s degree in software engineering, or similar, plus several years of experience as a software engineer.

Your primary language is Java, and experience with other object-oriented languages like C++ is a plus.

It would also be a plus if you have:

  • Experience with design of software solutions through all the steps of requirements, architectural design, implementation, and verification
  • Experience with Design Patterns, SOLID design principles
  • Experience with parallel programming and proper thread handling/synchronization
  • Practiced code reviews and knowledge sharing with fellow engineers
  • Version control systems (GIT), trunk-based development and CI/CD

You as a person

  • You are passionate and you actively follow through on your tasks and enjoy working in a complex and highly specialized environment
  • You are a team player, and you take pride in communicating actively and acting proactively towards your teammates and stakeholders
  • You can structure and communicate technical complex solutions clearly and precisely in writing, and you enjoy doing so
  • You are well articulated in writing and speaking, as a minimum in English, preferable also in Danish
