Software Engineer – Build the toolchain behind the engines that move the world
Help us unlock the full potential of the world’s most powerful engines - by building the toolchain that the rest of the automation department relies on every day.
This isn’t a job where your code itself is the end product. Your code is the leverage. Every script, pipeline and internal tool you build makes a team of automation and control engineers faster, safer and more confident in the software they release – software that ends up running on two-stroke marine engines that move global shipping.
If you like solving real problems for real users sitting two desks away, and you care about reliability, clarity and teamwork, then keep reading.
You will play an important role in:
- Designing, building and maintaining the internal tools and scripts used across our Automation & Control function.
- Owning and evolving our CI platform in Jenkins – from build pipelines to test automation and release workflows.
- Extending our toolchain so colleagues can move data, configurations and artefacts between development, test and engine commissioning without friction.
- Reviewing design and code with your peers – and being reviewed in return.
- Supporting internal users when something breaks or a workflow needs rethinking.
- Helping us evolve our toolchain towards cloud-hosted services and API-based integrations – we see Azure, microservices and well-designed REST APIs as a natural next step.
A day in your new life
You start with coffee and a few minutes of catching up with colleagues, because we see the whole person, not just the engineer. Laughter is a part of the deal.
At the daily standup, you share where you are on a new feature in our build pipeline: a colleague from the control software team needs a faster way to package and deploy a test build to a test rig, and you’ve been refactoring the Jenkins job to make it happen. You get honest feedback, two good ideas and one bad joke.
Mid-morning you pair up with a teammate on a Python script that automates a configuration step the engineers used to do by hand. You discuss structure, naming and how to make the tool fail loudly when something is wrong – because the users are busy and deserve clear errors, not silent ones.
After lunch, you sit down with an internal user from a neighboring department. They walk you through their workflow, you take notes, and together you agree on the core of the problem. You leave with a clearer problem than what you arrived with – which is the goal.
Late afternoon you review a colleague’s pull request in git and the day ends with you dressed as a medieval knight – because today is the yearly Tour de Chambre.
We imagine that you:
- Have solid experience with Python and enjoy writing code that other developers will read and build on.
- Are comfortable with Jenkins (or a similar CI system) and with git as your daily source-control tool.
- Are a team player with big T, and enjoy getting challenged on your assumptions by your teammates.
- Care about structure, clarity and maintainability – and know that good tools fail loudly and predictably.
- Like turning messy, technical workflows into something elegant and understandable.
- Want to work with real users and real-world complexity – and help create clarity, not chaos.
- Communicate clearly, both in writing and in conversation, and are happy to push back when something doesn’t add up.
It will be an advantage if you also have:
- Experience with Azure – e.g. running services, pipelines or storage in the cloud.
- Experience building GUI applications in Python and working with microservices architectures – familiarity with TypeScript and REST APIs is a bonus.
- Experience with C++ – useful when our tools touch the engine control code.
- Familiarity with JIRA or similar issue trackers.
- Experience working in agile setups such as Scrum or Kanban.
- An interest in automation, embedded systems or visualising complex technical domains.
Welcome to EDED – Tools & HILS
You’ll join the TOOLS team in our Tools & HILS department at Everllence (formerly MAN Energy Solutions). The team builds and maintains the internal toolchain – scripts, CI, test infrastructure and developer tooling – used by the rest of the function delivering control software for the world’s largest two-stroke marine engines.
There’s always someone to help out – and we use our daily standups as much for tech as for teasing each other.
We value quality, collaboration, and psychological safety, and we’re not afraid to have fun, be creative, or the occasional burst of confetti. Transparency, openness to feedback, and shared learning are part of our daily rhythm.
What can you expect from us:
At Everllence, you will join a development-oriented team and department where learning is an integrated part of the job. We offer:
- A strong focus on both professional and personal development – through good mentorship, and continuous feedback.
- Access to internal and external training courses in software engineering, automation, test design, communication, and domain knowledge.
- Opportunities to grow into broader roles – technical expert/architect, project management, or people manager – depending on your interests.
- Participation in cross-functional initiatives where you can shape our tools, methods, and technology stack.
