To strengthen our Technology team focussing on strategy, risk, architecture and portfolio, we're searching for an experienced Solution Architect to join our team.
Your role
The Solution Architect is responsible for designing solutions to meet the business requirements of specific initiatives. They also work closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to align with enterprise architecture roadmap, ensure optimum reuse of standard components and appropriately follow Specsavers’ standards, principles and policies.
The Solution Architect supports Specsavers delivery functions, creating Solution Designs that are realised by Lines of Business and Strategic Programs. They work closely with Business Analysts, Product Vendors and Development Teams to translate business requirements into solutions that are delivered on time, within budget and in line with Specsavers architecture standards. The role involves close liaison with the Enterprise Architecture team to evolve the Architectural Roadmap.
Your primary tasks and responsibilities include, but not be limited to:
- Provide solution leadership ensuring the performance, resilience and scalability of its key applications.
- Define, develop and continually improve the Solution Architecture function within Specsavers.
- To maintain the Solution Architecture work products to ensure their accuracy with the live estate.
- Provide architectural consultancy, proactive communication, support and guidance to individuals, groups and teams.
- Collaborate with team members, other architects and technical leads to ensure the delivery of quality solutions.
- Proactively seek out learning opportunities to increase skills and knowledge, taking responsibility for own professional development.
- Create Solution Architecture resource forecasts for new projects.
In the role, you'll report directly to the Head of Technology Strategy, Risk, Architecture & Portfolio, Northern Europe, Niels Braae. Occasional travel to other Specsavers Office locations is to be expected in the role.

Your qualifications
We're seeking a new colleague, who will take part of our small-sized, social and collaborative team. To fulfil this role at Specsavers, you should align with the following requirements:
Essential
- Proficient in delivering architecturally sound solutions to company standards.
- Proficient in the use of architecture frameworks.
- Familiar with design patterns.
- Proficient in designing solutions within a Service Oriented or Microservices Architecture.
- Ability to balance idealised solutions with practical business demands.
- Proficient in taking a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to all work undertaken.
- A clear appreciation of how IT must relate to the business.
- Proficient in prioritising effectively whilst working on multiple, cross-functional projects.
- Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal support.
- Proficient in managing risk through identification and adoption of mitigation. strategies associated with the architecture.
- Proficient in stakeholder management with excellent communication, political and soft skills.
Desirable
- An appreciation of Enterprise and Integration Design Patterns.
- Experience of Agile methodologies and test-first development.
- Broad knowledge of development platforms, languages and technologies.
Your development
Within 3 months, you’ll:
- Be onboarded and become part of the global architecture community.
- Gain understanding of the complexity of your product area.
- Support/work on specific designs supporting the 5-year strategy.
Within 6-12 months, you:
- Understand the short- mid- and long-term impact of your expertise and advice.
- Can be the go-to-person for technology driven business enablement.
- Deliver roadmap-defining input, technology advice along with robust designs.
