Cloud Native Architect
Design the platform where location doesn’t matter — but architecture does.
When you hear “Cloud Native”, do you think “Compute Foundation”, a way of building systems that run anywhere, and of replacing the classic vendor-locking with Oracle, IBM or Microsoft, with a new vendor-locking to a Cloud Service Provider.
If Cloud Native, to you, means “it only runs on Azure,” then this is not your calling.
If Cloud Native, to you, means portability, clear boundaries, declarative infrastructure, and the freedom to run in a basement, a datacenter, Azure, AWS, or somewhere we haven’t chosen yet, then you might be the architect we’re looking for.
At SOS International, our infrastructure is a hybrid of classic datacenter and cloud services, and our ambition is bold: from the user’s perspective, the experience must be the same everywhere. When you check your email, you don’t care whether it’s an Exchange server humming in a basement or Outlook Online in Azure. Likewise, developers shouldn’t have to care where code runs, they should trust the platform. We are expanding our use of cloud services while actively avoiding gravitational wells and vendor lock‑in. This is where you come in.
While we aim for Cloud Native, we are pragmatic enough to know, that we are not a software house, selling a product, which our customers will install and operate at any cloud provider under the sun, this means, that we are currently only using Microsoft Azure Cloud as the Cloud Service Provider and Red Hat OpenShift Cluster as the on-premise Kubernetes implementation, and that is not likely to change anytime soon. Although we have selected Microsoft Azure as our cloud provider, the selection may not compromise our Cloud Native approach.
The Platform You'll Help Shape
- Domain-Driven Design and Event-Driven Architecture
- Choreography over orchestration
- Versioned REST Read APIs and Domain Change Events
- Local projections, not distributed joins over HTTPS
- Autonomous bounded contexts
- Kubernetes/OpenShift as the backbone
- Immutable infrastructure and predictable deployments
How You Will Help and What you will do
- Define Cloud Native foundations across environments
- Ensure portability by design
- Translate macro-architecture into platform capabilities
- Help teams adopt clear deployment and integration patterns
- Simplify complex hybrid infrastructure
- Reduce operational friction and improve flow
- Design cloud-agnostic compute, networking, secrets, observability patterns
- Shape Kubernetes/OpenShift deployment models
- Define IaC and GitOps standards
- Evaluating cloud services for portability and clarity
- Collaborate with domain architects and infra teams
- Document and communication principles
- Enable One SOS strategy via consistent patterns
What Success Looks Like
- Workloads are designed and operated
- location-agnostic
- Without cloud gravitational wells
- Infrastructure solution designs ensure adherence to macro-architecture standards.
- Self-service with safety
- Reliable, immutable deployments
- Improved engineering flow
What You Will Bring
- Responsibility for designing solutions which are live in production on
- Kubernetes/OpenShift
- Multiple Cloud Providers, especially Microsoft Azure
- Patterns for declarative infrastructure, immutability, event-driven design, zero-trust, RBAC, resiliency
- CNCF Cloud Native mindset
- Pragmatism in standardization vs specialization
- Clear communication and system thinking
Where You'll Sit
You will be working in Group Architecture & Security and collaborating across all of SOS. You will experience that you will be landing in a team, which has an informal tone and a great culture of wanting to help one another succeed.
The role can be based in either Copenhagen or Aarhus, with flexibility for partial remote work
Why SOS International
When people need help, they call us. Your architecture will be felt by the traveler who gets timely care and the family who gets safely home. If you want your craft to matter beyond the code, this is your place.
